Pixel Pitch Guide

LED Screen Pixel Pitch Guide

What pixel pitch means, why it matters, and how to choose the right pitch for your venue and audience.

Pixel pitch is the distance in millimeters between the centers of two LEDs on a panel. A smaller number (for example P2.6) means pixels are closer together and the image is sharper up close, while a larger number (for example P6) is fine for audiences viewing from a distance. The right pixel pitch depends on how close your nearest viewers sit.

What pixel pitch means

Pixel pitch is measured in millimeters and describes the spacing between LEDs. P2.6 means 2.6mm between pixels; P4 means 4mm. The smaller the number, the more pixels per area and the sharper the image at close range. The trade-off is cost: a tighter pitch uses more LEDs and costs more.

How to choose pitch by viewing distance

A simple rule: the closer your audience, the tighter the pitch you need. As a starting guide:

  • Up close (trade show booth, lobby, conference set where people stand a few feet away): P1.5 to P2.6.
  • Medium (worship, ballroom, corporate general session): P2.6 to P3.9.
  • Far (concert crowd, outdoor festival, stadium): P4 to P10, because viewers are far enough that they do not see individual pixels.

Outdoor walls usually use a wider pitch and higher brightness because crowds view from a distance in daylight.

Pitch is not the only factor

Brightness (nits), content resolution, and processing matter too. We match all of them to your venue so the image looks right from every seat without paying for resolution your audience will never see. Not sure what you need? See the size guide or tell us your venue and we will spec it.

Common questions

Questions, answered

What pixel pitch do I need for my event?

It depends on how close your nearest viewers sit. Close audiences (booths, lobbies) need a tight pitch like P1.5 to P2.6; medium rooms suit P2.6 to P3.9; large outdoor crowds are fine with P4 to P10. We recommend the pitch that fits your viewing distance.

Is a smaller pixel pitch always better?

Not always. A smaller pitch is sharper up close but costs more. If your audience views from a distance, a wider pitch looks just as good and saves money. We size the pitch to your real viewing distance, not the biggest spec.

What pixel pitch is best for a trade show booth?

Because attendees stand close to a booth wall, a tighter pitch (around P1.5 to P2.6) keeps logos and text crisp. We recommend the pitch that stays sharp at booth viewing distance.

Does pixel pitch affect brightness?

Pitch and brightness are separate specs. Outdoor walls combine a wider pitch with high brightness (nits) so they stay readable in daylight. We match both to your venue.
